Hi Mrs. Fitz, this is Gwen commenting on the pictures and the golden ratio. I'm actually friends with Olivia, we were in AP art together this year, I'll miss her greatly and it's good to see she enjoyed her last couple of days :D. Actually, what I really wanted to comment on was your upcoming posts on the Golden Ratio. I first came across this subject last year when reading the DaVinci Code by Dan Brown. it was explained that the golden ratio, that being 1.61803399 is found everywhere in nature. One interesting example is the human body itself. If you measure the length of your arm and check the ratio between that arm and your body this magical number is the ratio. I have many more weird examples such as the rings on the bark of the tree but I'll let you explain :D I'm very interested in what you have to say about the subject. Thanks! -Gwen (A Block)
As this spring progresses, we'll be using more great on line tools. Watch video.

Did You Know?
The Golden Ratio is demonstrated from the tiny seeds at the center of a sunflower to the spacing between the mighty rings of Saturn. Throughout art, nature architecture and our bodies, the Golden Mean is at play.

Giving Credit
The photos I use on this blog are for educational purposes. Many are in the public domain from Getty images. I also use ones from boston.com. Most are from my iPhone. I always give credit, I always ask permission. You need to as well.

Earthrise
When I was a student, this photo was on the front page of every major newspaper in the world. It is the earth, appearing to "rise" like a sunrise. The view is from the moon. It was shot by astronauts on the Apollo mission. It is one of my favorite photos. It always makes me pause and reflect.
Perfect for these winter days
The MFA in Boston is a great way to spend a Saturday or Sunday during these cold weeks. Remember, our local library has museum passes you can use at no cost.

I'm originally from greater Boston and have always called it home. I have a Bachelors Degree from Tufts U. and an MBA/CIS from Bentley College. I've also done some post graduate work in database designs at MIT. I worked for over 10 years as a systems engineer at The MITRE Corp. and then 13 years as a college instructor.
I have a wonderful husband, and three great kids. I make a wonderful lasagna (or so I'm told) and my meatballs became famous in France! I have a very Irish last name (my husband's) but I am all Italian and proud of my strong heritage. I have over 60 cousins and we try to get together every year at a big, fun family reunion. Tell me about you. What is your family like? What do you like to eat? Is there something special you know how to cook? Let me know!
