"Victor, Vector!"

Students,
We've been talking about vectors in Honors Geometry and thinking of them in termsof air traffic control commands. You might want to take a look at some of the following links:

http://physics.about.com/od/mathematics/a/VectorMath.htm

http://emweb.unl.edu/math/mathweb/vectors/vectors.html

http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/sets/select/dm_vectors.html

After you've had a chance to read through this material, please answer some of the following questions in a comment.

1) In addition to our air traffic control example, can you come up with an application of vectors in another area of day-to-day life?

2) When you take Physics here at RMHS, how might vectors be used and taught? Why?

3) Please visit YouTube and TeacherTube to view some videos on vectors. Come up with 2 or 3 that are really helpful in teaching students, like you, info about vectors. Write them in a comment as well.

Hi this is Nicole from Block B

1) Another example of vectors of vectors that are used in everyday life is driving in a car.

2) When your talking about Force vectors will be used because today in class Dr. Valentine talked about it.

1) Another application of vectors in another area of day-to-day life is driving in a car.

2) In Physics vectors may be used and taught while dealing with 3D coordinate graphs because they need to be used in order to have the x, y, and z, axis.

1) An application of vectors in day-to-day life is with the use of public transpirtation like buses.

2)Vectors might be used in physics at RMHS in the way of motion. And motion is what physics are all about.

2. When I take Physics, I'll most likely learn about vectors in relation to motion, trajectories, etc.

Hi this is Matt A from block F.
1) Vectors are used for many modes of transportation. These modes include air traffic, cars, trains, and many others.
2) Vectors will be used in physics because they have to do with velocity, size, and direction. This is also very similar to physics, because physics also has to do with velocity, size, and direction.

2) We will learn about vectors in Physics because both of them have to do with directions of motions.

1.) If you are a baseball player in the outfield and the ball is hit nearby to you, you have to decide in what direction and how hard you need to throw it to get the runner out.

2.) In physics, we might use vectors while talking about the laws of motion and other similar things, because both talk about force and motion.

1) Another way vectors apply to real life is if a car loses control and another person needs to make a split second decision then they have to know the direction and speed of all the cars in the area.

2) Vectors will be used in Physics if one needs to figure out the speed and direction of object "A" after it has been hit by object "B".

Students,
This is Mrs. Fitzpatrick. As I read through your comments it impressed me when several of you went into detail. One student talked about 2 cars hitting each other. Another student talked about baseball and figuring out how fast and in which direction a ball should be thrown to get a runner out. Nice work, students! Keep checking this blog for more updates.

1.) Vectors are used pretty much whenever there is motion and an object moves from point A to point B.
This includes a box sliding down a sloped surface, a car driving down a road, etc.

2.)Since physics is all about the interaction between energy and matter, motion occurs very frequently. Motion can be represented by vectors.

hi this is olivia h from block f
sorry for getting back to you late.

1. These vectors can b eused with other transportation. Lke boats, buses, etc.

2. IN physics it talks about the laws of motion, so in order to do that you can calculate the movement using vectors.

3.Hopefully no one has these ;)

Hi Mrs. Fitz! This id Garrett from Block F.

1. "When giving directions to a house, it isn't enough to say that it's 10 miles away, but the direction of those 10 miles must also be provided for the information to be useful." -about.com-This means that vectors are used as commands in terms of directions. When you tell someone how to get to your house you tell them whether you take a left or right. You do not just tell them where your house is and expect them to get there automatically. That is what vectors are. Directions or commands.

2. Vectors might be used in Physics to to explain the Laws of Motion. They might be used to explain the bath an object travels when it is in motion.

3. Here are some useful videos to explain vextors: http://www.teachertube.com/viewVideo.php?video_id=134921&title=adding_vectors

http://teachertube.com/viewVideo.php?video_id=134922&title=splitting_vectors

Hope these are helpful :0)
